Avoid midday napping, which could keep you from returning to slumber after a 3 a.m. screamfest, says Daniel S. Lewin, Ph.D., director of the pediatric behavioral medicine program at the Children's National Medical Center, in Washington, D.C. "Napping for 10 to 15 minutes is okay," he says. "But more than 45 minutes will take its toll the next time you try to get a full night's sleep."
